ESPN Reports: The New York Giants have officially revealed plans to build a bronze statue honoring their iconic player, with construction on the tribute set to begin.

June 4, 2025 – East Rutherford, NJ — The New York Giants have officially announced plans to immortalize one of the most legendary figures in franchise history with a bronze statue. The tribute will honor Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor, widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history.

According to a report by ESPN, the statue will be erected outside the Giants’ headquarters and training facility at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center in East Rutherford. The team confirmed that work on the monument is scheduled to begin later this summer, with an unveiling ceremony expected during the 2025 NFL regular season.

Giants team owner John Mara expressed the organization’s excitement about the project:

> “Lawrence Taylor changed the way the game of football is played. His impact on this franchise and the league is immeasurable. It’s only fitting that we honor him in a way that will stand the test of time.”

Taylor, who spent his entire 13-year career with the Giants, was the second overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft. He went on to win two Super Bowls with the team, earn 10 Pro Bowl selections, and was named NFL MVP in 1986 — a rare feat for a defensive player. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999.

Speaking about the honor, Taylor said,

> “I’m humbled and incredibly grateful to the Giants organization and the fans who’ve supported me throughout my career. To have a statue in front of the building where it all happened — that’s something truly special.”

The statue will depict Taylor in his iconic No. 56 jersey, standing in a powerful pose with arms crossed — a nod to his fierce and commanding presence on the field. The team stated that the sculpture will be crafted by a renowned sports artist and cast in bronze to ensure durability and historical significance.

Fans and former teammates alike have voiced their support for the tribute, calling it a long-overdue recognition of a player who revolutionized the linebacker position and remains a symbol of Giants greatness.

The New York Giants plan to release more details in the coming weeks, including a date for the unveiling ceremony, which is expected to be open to fans and media.
