**Coach Lincoln Riley Sees Promising Progress from USC Quarterback Husan Longstreet**
USC head coach Lincoln Riley has never been shy about his high expectations for quarterbacks — and it looks like freshman Husan Longstreet is beginning to meet them.
Speaking after a recent offseason workout session, Riley praised Longstreet’s development, noting both his mental growth and physical tools as key signs the young signal-caller is headed in the right direction.
“Husan’s taken some really encouraging steps,” Riley said. “He’s understanding the playbook quicker than most guys at his stage, and his poise is improving every day. You can tell he loves the game and wants to be great.”
Longstreet, one of the Trojans’ most highly anticipated additions in the 2024 recruiting class, came into the program with big expectations. Known for his strong arm, quick release, and natural leadership, the California native is already turning heads during early practices.
Riley — known for grooming elite quarterbacks like Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Caleb Williams — has been hands-on with Longstreet’s development. He’s emphasized decision-making, pocket awareness, and footwork as key areas of focus for the young QB.
“There’s still a long way to go,” Riley added, “but what’s exciting is how fast he’s improving. He doesn’t make the same mistake twice, and that’s the kind of trait you can build around.”
While Longstreet isn’t expected to start immediately, his rapid progression has sparked excitement among fans and coaches alike. With USC heading into its first season as a Big Ten member, the quarterback depth chart will be under heavy scrutiny — and Longstreet’s emergence gives the Trojans another dynamic option for the future.
If he continues on this trajectory, it may not be long before Husan Longstreet becomes a household name in college football — and yet another successful quarterback under Lincoln Riley’s watchful eye.
