Concern for Eddie Howe and Newcastle United as FA make official Lewis Miley announcement…

There is a minor cause for concern regarding Newcastle United wonderkid Lewis Miley, after the FA made an announcement about him on Saturday.

After Antonio Cordero lit up the Under-19s European Championships on Friday evening, fans are eagerly anticipating how England will fare in the tournament.

Newcastle United fans would have a keen eye on proceedings too, as promising midfielder Lewis Miley was named in the squad for the tournament in Romania.

Miley captained England Under-19s for friendlies in the months leading up to the tournament, and will likely do so again in the future. Miley’s England Under-19s call-up is a sign that Eddie Howe has transformed this Newcastle team into one that is proud to show off its stars on the wider stage.

The 19-year-old was set to feature in England’s opening game against Norway on Saturday, but an FA announcement has now confirmed that will not be the case.

Newcastle United ace Lewis Miley withdraws from England U-19 squad
Unfortunately, it looks like a minor issue has caught up to Miley, which has had severe consequences for his place in the England youth setup. The midfielder was struggling with a minor groin issue in the latter stages of the season, and it has now been deemed bad enough for him to be taken out of the England side for this summer’s tournament.

Miley will now have the summer off, but he will be disappointed at the outcome of his problem as he would have seen the Euros as an opportunity to show Howe that he deserves to be in the picture for a start much more often.

On his withdrawal, an FA statement read: “Will Antwi has added Tottenham Hotspur’s Reiss Russell-Denny and Crystal Palace’s Jesse Derry to his UEFA U19 EURO squad. This follows the withdrawal of Newcastle United’s Lewis Miley and Southampton’s Tyler Dibling.”

Newcastle will also be disappointed to hear the news of the latter’s withdrawal. Newcastle have been linked with Tyler Dibling after his impressive season with Southampton.

The 19-year-old came close to joining the Magpies in 2022 before opting for Chelsea. He completed a move back to the Saints shortly after.

The one England player Newcastle United fans should watch after Lewis Miley’s withdrawal
While Miley’s absence is a disappointment, England remain one of the favourites to win the whole tournament without him.

The squad is full of promising players, but Newcastle may have their eye on one player who has been on their radar in the past.

Sunderland player Chris Rigg was chosen to represent England U-19s after impressing in the Championship and helping them earn promotion back to the Premier League.

Newcastle had an interest in Rigg in 2024, and reports have cropped up about the Magpies looking to sign him since then. The young midfielder rejected a move to Newcastle last year to sign his first professional deal with Sunderland, but Howe could still order his recruitment team to see what it will take to bring him to the club.

As it stands, Rigg will come up against Newcastle for Sunderland, rather than him playing for the Magpies against the Black Cats.
