Newcastle United are recruiting for a new coach which now puts Jason Tindall’s input into question.

Today, Newcastle United posted a job posting on their official site, looking for a set-play coach for the first team.
Jason Tindall has often been pointed to as the source for Newcastle’s set play work since he arrived along with Eddie Howe, but it looks as though the Magpies are now looking for a specialist to take that away from Tindall.
In fairness, while we have seen some inventive set-plays under Eddie Howe, we’ve hardly been seen as deadball specialists by any stretch.
Newcastle want an experienced, elite-level coach to focus on set plays
According to the posting, Newcastle are looking for ‘an experienced and innovative elite-level coach to support our First Team by leading the strategic planning, design, and execution of all offensive and defensive set-play routines. The Set Play Coach will work closely with the first-team coaching staff, analysts, and players to maximise performance outcomes from dead-ball situations.’
That probably doesn’t apply to winning the league on Football Manager or always scoring from corners on EAFC.
What it does show, though, is that Newcastle are continuing to look forward and look for ways to improve.

Newcastle are looking to add more ways to score goals it seems
There were many games this season where Newcastle could have played another 90 minutes and not looked like scoring, but if we had a well-worked, well-rehearsed set piece up our sleeves, that could have changed things massively.
This posting can only be a positive thing for Newcastle and heavily suggests the club have identified weaknesses and is looking to put them right.
We can’t wait to see some quality set-piece manoeuvres next season, should they find the right candidate and get them in place in good time.
