Coventry City ‘register interest’ in sought-after Championship midfielder
The latest Coventry City news from CoventryLive as the Sky Blues are linked with a Blackburn Rovers stalwart
Coventry City have been linked with a move for midfielder Lewis Travis.
Website Football League World claim the Sky Blues ‘are the latest club to register an interest’ in a player who has spent nearly all of his senior career at Blackburn Rovers.
The 27-year-old came through the youth set-up at Liverpool before moving to Ewood Park academy in 2014 and then signing professional terms at the club in 2017.
Since then he has made 263 appearances for Rovers, including 38 in the Championship last term, as Rovers overcame a managerial change to mount a decent play-off bid, albeit one that fell just short.
Indeed, his only period away from Rovers was the second half of the previous season when he helped Ipswich Town win promotion to the Premier League.
Travis has one year left on his contract and it has been reported that the club have been unable to agree new terms, putting a pressure on them to cash in this summer or risk losing him for nothing in 12 months.
Travis has been most regularly linked with Derby County, although Birmingham City’s name has also been throw into the mix.
Travis plays most of his football as a deeper-lying midfielder, an area of relative strength for the Sky Blues with new signing Matt Grimes and Ben Sheaf able to dictate in those areas. Victor Torp and Josh Eccles are also options.
