Marco Asensio enjoyed a profitable loan spell at Aston Villa.

The Spaniard linked up with Unai Emery‘s side in the winter transfer window and notched eight goals and one assist in 21 matches.

However, there was no option to purchase the former Real Madrid man included in the loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain, which has left question marks over a potential return to Villa Park for the new season.

Asensio price proves the sticking point for Aston Villa
It has been widely reported that the Villans may decide to move on to other options in the position, rather than keeping Asensio in B6.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that the price of signing the 29-year-old permanently may be what is putting Villa off making a move.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, he said: “You have to look at players, what they have done over time, he had that amazing purple patch for Villa in which he scored seven in seven games in February and March.

“He is a quality player and you want those kind of players around the squad, I am vaguely surprised that they would not want to make that into a permanent move if I am honest with you.

“His eye for goal is a huge plus, he had a frustrating time at Real Madrid, where he was forever on the bench, just could not force his way into the team but when he did come on, he had a habit of nicking a goal, scored in a Champions League final, all that sort of thing.

“What would be the price? I would think they would be happy to do it at a lower price but they are probably thinking he isn’t going to be in the starting line-up.

Villa could still sign Asensio
Asensio proved to be a fantastic pick-up from Monchi as he resurrected his career with the Villans and they could still secure his signature.

The lack of Champions League football will hurt their plans for this summer but if they can negotiate a lower fee with the Parisians, a deal can be reached to bring him back.

It remains to be seen whether the Spanish star returns, but if he does not, Villa will have to fill the creativity void another way, perhaps with Liverpool star Harvey Elliott.
