Tottenham Hotspur Are In Talks To Land This Bournemouth Winger: Should Frank Get Him On Board?
In a recent report, The Athletic’s David Ornstein mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks to land Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo. It has been stated that Spurs have held discussions to bring the Ghanaian talent to North London in this summer transfer window.
Semenyo’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Premier League
Semenyo enjoyed a decent campaign at the English club after he put in a handful of promising displays for them in the final third. The Ghanaian sensation featured in 42 matches for the Cherries last season, finding the back of the net 15 times and securing seven assists on all fronts.
The 25-year-old gave a good account of himself on the left flank as he averaged 3.51 shots per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He kept 32% of his attempts on target. However, Semenyo needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 73.4% in the English top flight (stats via fbref.com).
Semenyo’s current contract at the Vitality Stadium will expire in the summer of 2029 which could make it difficult for Spurs to sign him on a cut-price deal this off-season.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank Get Semenyo On Board?
Semenyo has got the pace to cause a lot of headaches for his marker in the final third. He is a good runner with the ball and can engineer some inviting chances for his teammates to score. The Ghana international can even strike the ball with power from long range. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also play as a right-winger if asked to do so.
Semenyo already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Tottenham. We can expect him to enhance the quality of Thomas Frank’s frontline. He is good enough to serve as an ideal, long-term successor to Heung-min Son at the North London club.
At 25, Semenyo has his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for Spurs to pursue this summer. He could even help the London outfit compete across all competitions in the coming seasons. Therefore, it is only logical for Frank to try and get Semenyo on board in this summer transfer period.
Manchester United, Newcastle United, Tottenham priced out of Antoine Semenyo move
Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham are keen on signing Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo this summer.
According to a report from i News, Antoine Semenyo is valued at £70 million, and that will come as a huge blow for any club hoping to sign him. It seems that Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham have now been priced out of a move for the Bournemouth winger.
The Ghanaian international enjoyed an exceptional season with Bournemouth, and he scored 13 goals in all competitions. He managed to pick up seven assists as well. There is no doubt that the London-born winger is good enough to play for the biggest clubs in the country, and he would’ve been an excellent acquisition for all three clubs.
Semenyo will be attracted to the idea of joining a big club as well, and he will want to fight for trophies. However, the £70 million valuation from the Cherries could scupper any potential move this summer. It will be interesting to see if the player decides to force an exit. If he submits a transfer request, Bournemouth will be under pressure to sell him, and they might decide to be more reasonable with their demands.
