Newcastle United have already had an initial bid for Anthony Elanga rejected by Nottingham Forest, but reports suggest that the Magpies are not giving up yet.

Having already missed out on Bryan Mbeumo, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer when it comes to finding attacking players for Eddie Howe, Newcastle will be more determined than ever to get new faces into the club.

Nottingham Forest’s pacy winger Anthony Elanga is now the priority target for Newcastle if reports are to be believed, and the Magpies will need to act fast before Chelsea decide they want him.

As the club prepares a new bid, Keith Downie has spoken on his YouTube channel about the signing,g saying he’d be an excellent fit at Newcastle.

Anthony Elanga’s arrival could be a settling factor for Alexander Isak

Downie likened Elanga to Anthony Gordon, saying he’s a very similar player, only on the opposite flank. However, the Sky Sports reporter made another valid point about what signing Elanga could do for Newcastle, particularly with regards to Alexander Isak.

“I think Isak stays, and I think the potential arrival of Elanga will really help him to have his close mate, his compatriot, and I just see Elanga really fitting in well.”

He then goes on to say that he’s seen fans being underwhelmed by the idea of signing Elanga over some other names the Magpies have been linked with, but Downie makes a solid case for his signing.

Newcastle are expected to improve their offer for Anthony Elanga soon

Keith Downie went on to explain why, beyond the Isak side of things, Anthony Elanga would be a great signing for Newcastle.

“For me, Elanga, his numbers last season, he was taking on defences single-handedly, his ability to score and create chances and really really trouble teams on the break would be perfect for this Newcastle Untied side.

“If they had a front three of Elanga, Isak and Gordon, absolutely rapid the three of them and they would scare any defence in the world, really.”

We can’t say we disagree with him on this one. That front three would be terrifying for any defence. One ball behind the back line and they are toast.

Downie says he expects things to move on Elanga soon, so fingers crossed we aren’t waiting around for much longer.
