Sunderland were reportedly close to securing a deal for the Chelsea goalkeeper. However, Tavolieri writes that Bournemouth have since entered the race. Another club is also thought to be involved, although details have not yet been disclosed.
Despite an impressive season on loan with RC Strasbourg Alsace, Petrovic will likely not return to the East of France. Le Racing had been keen on a reunion, but it was reported earlier that Chelsea’s high asking price of €25m has warded them off.
In his one season in France, Petrovic helped Strasbourg finish in 7th in the league, which was enough to secure a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior had been keen to keep hold of Petrovic for at least another season. The former Hull City head coach told local media, “I love working with him and, hopefully, somehow we can still collaborate in the future. Whether it’s here or elsewhere in five years, I’d like it to be next season.”

Petrović, despite a strong season on loan at partner club RC Strasbourg Alsace, is not expected to remain at Chelsea this summer. The Premier League side’s high valuation of the Serbian goalkeeper (€25m), also means that a return to Alsace is not on the cards.
He could instead remain in the Premier League. As per L’Équipe, both Bournemouth and Sunderland are interested in the goalkeeper. Bournemouth are in the market for a replacement for Kepa, who rejoined parent club Chelsea before being sold to Arsenal.Sunderland, meanwhile, are still in the market for a goalkeeper. They had been intent on signing Marcin Bulka. However, Neom SC beat the Black Cats to the signing of the now-former OGC Nice shotstopper. Both Premier League sides are more capable of meeting Chelsea’s valuation than Strasbourg.
