Nuno Espírito Santo is looking to add to his Nottingham Forest squad, but a number of exits also need to be negotiated.

Forest are looking to sell Matt Turner to Lyon this summer, but the French side’s financial troubles have slowed down the progress of that deal.

Lyon’s woes may have also cost Forest a significant fee for Brazilian midfielder Danilo, with Real Betis looking to take Danilo on loan rather than the £20m Lyon were set to pay.

There is one exit that is moving closer to being confirmed, though, with one fringe member of the Forest squad told quite clearly by Espírito Santo that he had no future at the club.

Ramon Sosa’s future was made clear by Nuno Espírito Santo
Ramon Sosa is set to sign for Palmeiras, just under a year after arriving at the City Ground from Argentine side Talleres.

At the tail end of the 24/25 season, it was said that Sosa had fallen out with Espírito Santo over his lack of game time at the club, with a new report by Paraguayan outlet Versus adding further credence to that claim.

The report said: “Paraguayan striker Ramon Sosa is a potential player for Palmeiras in Brazil and is only missing a contract signature. […] Sosa was informed by coach Nuno Espírito Santo that he will not be a priority for the English club.”

Given that Espírito Santo is looking for two wingers, he must have had very little trust in Sosa to prefer to look for another player to fill his place in the squad. However, the club may well be disappointed at the outcome, given how highly the winger was thought of when he first arrived.

Nottingham Forest had high hopes for Ramon Sosa
It was revealed that Forest paid £10m for Sosa, alongside potential add-ons that surely haven’t been activated given how little he has featured.

The fee was seen to be a bargain at the time, with Forest’s Sporting Director Ross Wilson delighted with the Sosa signing when the deal was announced.

Wilson said: “Ramon has been coveted by many clubs but was so clear in his desire to join Nottingham Forest.

“We could all feel his energy, emotion, pride and excitement to be here from the first minute he arrived. He can’t wait to get started and we are delighted that he is here with us.”

For whatever reason, Sosa’s Forest career never quite got off the ground, so his departure to Palmeiras looks to be the best solution for all involved.
