Coventry City F.C: Frank Lampard confirms Championship club to play ‘behind-closed-doors friendly’ in Portugal against AS Monaco – when and who are they?
Coventry City posted on X: “Frank Lampard has confirmed that we will play a behind-closed-doors friendly this weekend, as part of our training camp. There will be no live coverage of this fixture.”
One fan said the club is “missing a trick” as they could “set up a camera and charge £5 for the stream with all money going to sky blues in the community and the family zone chance to raise easy money for their projects”. However, others defended the club’s decision.
One wrote on X: “I assume it’s deliberate to keep some of the tactical tweaks under wraps?“. Another said: “Careful, people will kick off about this because we must know every single detail 24/7. Some people will want the players bowel movements described soon.”
The club announced on Thursday 10 July that they will be playing against AS Monaco on 16 July. The club said: “We can confirm that we will face AS Monaco in a pre-season fixture at St George’s Park on Wednesday 16th July. This match will be played behind closed doors and will not be open to the public.”
Newcastle United’s ‘potential midfield options’ include Coventry City star
Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues star midfielder is again linked with interest from the Premier League
Jack Rudoni is a midfield “option” for Newcastle United if the Premier League club sell Sean Longstaff to Leeds United, it has been claimed.
Leeds submitted a £12m bid for Longstaff earlier this week which has been rejected by the Magpies. According to The Athletic, personal terms are already in place with Leeds and Longstaff, but the move remains subject to a fee being agreed with Newcastle. Sources close to Leeds have suggested Newcastle are looking for a fee closer to £15m.
The Daily Mail has previously reported that Eddie Howe’s recruitment team are admirers of Rudoni, who was this week confirmed as the club’s player of the year after an outstanding opening season at the CBS Arena following his move from Huddersfield Town.
Mail Sport’s north east writer Craig Hope wrote this week: “Longstaff looks set for Leeds. As for a replacement, it will be explored, for sure. There is a feeling it would be difficult to sign a midfielder to improve upon a first-choice three of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton, and staff are expecting Lewis Miley to have a big season.
