PSG closing in on €60m transfer for Bournemouth defender Illia Zabarnyi.
Paris Saint-Germain are edging closer to signing Illia Zabarnyi in a €60m transfer from Bournemouth, who recently sold Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid.
PSG had attempted to complete a move for Zabarnyi during the first summer transfer window so he could play in the Club World Cup, but they failed to get the deal done in time. However, L’Equipe report negotiations have resumed and look to be heading towards a positive conclusion for the Champions League winners.
Zabarnyi is said to have been lined up a potential successor to PSG stalwart Marquinhos. The club captain is still only 31 years of age and has enjoyed arguably the finest season of his career to date in 2024-25, leading the French giants to a continental treble, but plans to replace in him in the future are already being drawn up.
It’s turning into a brutal transfer window for Bournemouth, with three of their first-choice defenders now either having departed or set to leave in the near future. Dean Huijsen has already made his debut for Real Madrid after completing a move to Spain earlier in the summer, while left-back Milos Kerkez is closing in on a transfer to Liverpool.
Zabarnyi won’t feature at the Club World Cup for PSG, who suffered a shock defeat to Botafogo in their most recent outing. They’re next in action on Monday night when they take on Seattle Sounders.
PSG close to agreeing a fee to sign Bournemouth’s Illia Zabarnyi..
According to Matteo Moretto, Paris Saint-Germain are in advanced negotiations to sign Illia Zabarnyi (22) from Bournemouth. The two sides are in discussions of a potential transfer fee in the region of €60m, which would see the UEFA Champions League winners secure the services of the Ukrainian international defender.
PSG’s interest in the Cherries centre back is long-standing. The Ligue 1 champions expressed an interest in signing Zabarnyi during the last winter transfer window, but a move never materialised. Luis Enrique has identified the defensive department as an area of his squad that he would like to bolster during the summer transfer window.
Personal terms are not expected to be an issue with the defender already informing the Premier League club that he wishes to join the Ligue 1 champions. Les Parisiens were hoping to secure the services of Zabarnyi for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup but were unable to agree a deal with Bournemouth before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
