Aston Villa close on goalkeeper signing as Emi Martinez returns to training..

Villa remain on course to complete the signing of Marco Bizot with the whole of Unai Emery’s squad now back in pre-season training. Bizot is in the UK to seal his expected move from Brest and will become Villa’s second signing of the summer after teenage striker Zepiqueno Redmond.

The 34-year-old Dutch shot-stopper has been signed to provide competition for Emi Martinez, who was among those Villa players returning to training on Monday.

Martinez’s future has been the subject of much speculation since he left the field in tears following Villa’s final home match of last season.

But a firm offer for the World Cup winner is yet to materialise and Villa are not prepared to lower their valuation of the 32-year-old.

Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Amadou Onana and skipper John McGinn were among those reporting back for training.

So too was Ollie Watkins, another player whose future has been under the spotlight but while Al-Hilal are thought to have enquired about the England international’s services, they are yet to back it up with a firm offer. Villa value Watkins at £60million.

Emery’s team will be in action for the first time in pre-season on Wednesday when they make the short trip to Walsall.
