West Ham open the door for Nottingham Forest to replace Anthony Elanga in style..
All will be forgiven if Nottingham Forest can replace Anthony Elanga with another top talent and West Ham have given them the perfect opportunity to do just that.
Forest received £55m for Elanga from Newcastle United, providing the new Global Head of Football Edu Gaspar with enough to find a perfect replacement for the Swede.
It looked as if PSV’s Johan Bakayoko could be the preferred replacement, but Bakayoko has agreed to join RB Leipzig rather than link up with Nuno Espírito Santo.
However, another target who boasts Premier League experience would potentially excite Forest fans even more, and West Ham have just given Edu the perfect chance to make a decisive move.

West Ham open the door for £40m Nottingham Forest target
Bakayoko is one of many exciting attacking players who have been linked with Forest over the last few weeks, clearly showing how serious Evangelos Marinakis is about reinvesting the Elanga funds.
Nottingham Forest News revealed that Harvey Elliott was liked by Forest as one of the most high-profile options, but other Premier League clubs have also shown interest in the Liverpool star.
West Ham were one of these clubs, but according to talkSPORT, they have been put off by the champions’ valuation.

The report said: “West Ham face being priced out of a move for Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott.
“The Hammers have held talks with Liverpool over England Under-21 hero Elliott, however, talkSPORT understands the Reds’ asking price of £40m-plus is likely to be too rich for the East Enders.”
Undoubtedly expensive, Elliott has shown the ability to truly excel with more first-team responsibility, which he would certainly get at Forest as he could solve two of Espírito Santo’s problems at once.
Harvey Elliott is exactly what Nottingham Forest need
Ahead of next season, there have been doubts within the Forest squad about last season’s style of play, with concerns that the counterattacking style was only as successful as it was due to Elanga’s electric pace.
This could well be true, so replacing him with a more technical, possession-friendly player like Elliott could make this potential tactical shift a whole lot easier.
Statistic Harvey Elliott 24/25
Progressive passes per 90 8.80
Passes into final third per 90 4.82
Passes received per 90 56.13
Dispossessed per 90 0.66
Carries per 90 42.68
The transition between fast breaks and more considered attacks won’t be easy, but having someone like Elliott who both demands the ball and rarely loses it would go a long way to helping the rest of the Forest squad find space.
Once he’s got it, Elliott boasts 8.80 progressive passes per game, with 4.82 of them going into the final third. This ability would be a unique prospect out wide in Elanga’s position, but he’d also be a brilliant option centrally if Morgan Gibbs-White’s move to Tottenham is finally sorted.
Every transfer runs the risk of not paying off, but it’s hard to see how at £40m, Elliott would be anything other than a success for Forest.
