Everton are keen on signing Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, with the clubs “not far apart in their valuations” according to Sport Witness.

With new ownership and a new stadium that will open in the coming campaign, there is finally a feeling of optimism around Everton once more. Last season, the Toffees looked set for a relegation battle under Sean Dyche, who was dismissed from his position early in the January transfer window.

In his place, Everton appointed David Moyes, the Scot having previously been in charge of West Ham United. Moyes, arriving 12 years after his first tenure as Everton manager ended, steered the Toffees well away from the threat of relegation, ultimately finishing comfortably within the confines of mid-table in the Premier League.

Everton have already been active this summer, signing striker Thierno Barry from Villarreal with Dominic Calvert-Lewin departing as a free agent. With many links to other potential incomings, the Merseyside club now seem keen on bolstering their midfield options.

Despite expectations, Douglas Luiz struggled to make a major impact in Turin, sparking rumours of a potential departure before the current window shuts. Everton are in need of midfield depth, with Abdoulaye Doucoure having left as a free agent upon the 2024/25 season’s conclusion.

In Luiz, described as “world-class,” Everton would be signing a player who is entering his prime years and who has proven himself in the Premier League. The club are reportedly unwilling to match Juventus’ initial price tag and as such, could pursue a loan deal for the Brazilian. Balzarini, though, has stated that he thinks “an agreement will be reached” over a permanent deal.

Regardless of the transfer structure Douglas Luiz would be a brilliant addition for Moyes’ side if they agree a deal for him.
