Yan Valery could become the latest player to leave Sheffield Wednesday, as clubs from the Championship and in Europe show an interest in the full-back.
The Owls’ financial issues are well-known, with the EFL having hit the club with sanctions after owner Dejphon Chansiri failed to pay all wages on time for the past two months.

Those players who weren’t paid on time were allowed to end their contracts, with Josh Windass and Michael Smith deciding to do just that, whilst Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba were sold to Rangers and Samsunspor respectively.

Whilst that has helped the financial situation in the short-term, particularly as Gassama commanded a fee in excess of £2m, it doesn’t change the fact that more departures feel inevitable at Hillsborough until a takeover is complete.
And, one player who could follow those out the door is Valery, as the Sheffield Star has revealed that the defender is on the radar of several clubs.

They claim that sides in the Championship are weighing up whether to make a move for the ex-Southampton man, and there are also clubs in Europe that could look to sign Valery.
It’s not clear what sort of fee they would receive for the 26-year-old, who was brought to Wednesday for around £400,000, and he still has two years left on his contract with the Yorkshire outfit.

Clearly, losing Valery would be another blow. He was a reliable figure under Danny Rohl last season, as he impressed defensively, and he does offer a threat going forward.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that there is genuine interest in the Frenchman, and many potential buyers will see him as a bargain, along with other players at Wednesday.
