3 Omari Hutchinson replacements Ipswich Town should consider as Brentford interest hots up

Ipswich Town could lose another one of star players with Brentford ramping up their efforts to sign Omari Hutchinson.

Ipswich Town are widely regarded as one of the favourites for promotion from the Championship this season. Key players are, however, in need of replacing at ITFC this summer.

Omari Hutchinson lit up the top flight with his dazzling performances for the Tractor Boys last term and could earn himself another shot at the Premier League following Brentford’s huge £35m offer.

It was initially thought that the Bees had matched the youngster’s release clause with their offer, though that clause has now expired and Ipswich Town were quick to reject the proposal. According to Fabrizio Romano though, 21-year-old Hutchinson is keen on the move and Brentford are expected to return with a new bid.

With that in mind, we put forward three alternatives in the attacking midfield department worth considering by Ipswich Town should Hutchinson depart…

Giannis Konstantelias – PAOK

With upwards of £35m potentially coming the Tractor Boys’ way, it gives Kieran McKenna’s side the freedom to be ambitious whilst still realistic given their current Championship status.

For that reason, Greek talent Giannis Konstantelias could be a shrewd replacement for Ipswich Town to eye. The 22-year-old, who can also play on the left-wing, has had an impressive season for PAOK where he has registered 10 goals and one assist.

Three of Konstantelias’ goal contributions came in the Europa League, whilst his 23 appearances in Greek Super League helped his side to a 4th-place finish. The opportunity to work with McKenna followed by the possibility of Premier League football may convince the youngster to move overseas.

Giovanni Fabbian – Bologna

Heading over to Italy for the next Ipswich Town option, Giovanni Fabbian is a rising talent in the Serie A having helped Bologna on their way to winning the Coppa Italia; the first major trophy for the club in 51 years.

The 22-year-old featured 41 times in all competitions for the Italian outfit, mostly off the bench, as he registered four goals and one assist. A key member of the Italy U21s side, he is yet to make his senior debut for the national team.

With seven Champions League appearances to his name, the second tier might not sound too appealing. However, the opportunity to become a regular starter and fight for a place in the English top flight with ITFC might be of temptation.

Fabio Carvalho – Brentford

Potentially used as a bargaining chip in the deal for Hutchinson, it might make sense for Brentford boy Fabio Carvalho to go the opposite way this summer if Ipswich Town are keen.

A proven threat in the Championship, the 22-year-old Portuguese playmaker has struggled to make a serious impact in the Premier League and might benefit from another term in the second tier before fully flourishing in the limelight.

Having signed for the Bees from Liverpool last summer, Carvalho managed 24 appearances in total but failed to cement himself as a regular starter before a shoulder injury cut his campaign short. He hit nine goals and two assists in 20 outings during his last Championship spell on loan with Hull City, so ITFC might be wise to weigh up a swoop.
