Tottenham and Newcastle alerted to Jacob Ramsey’s Aston Villa situation, one thing in particular appeals to him

TBR Football can exclusively confirm the latest developments around Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey amid interest from the likes of Tottenham and Newcastle United.

Tottenham and Newcastle are both looking to strengthen their ranks ahead of a season in which they’ll hope to impress in the Premier League and Champions League.

We understand that interest is mounting in Ramsey and he could be a summer departure from the Second City giants.

Ramsey has been seen as one of Aston Villa’s crown jewels, having come through their youth system.

The 24-year-old has been a regular under Unai Emery, but nearly half of his 19 Premier League appearances last season came from the bench.

Ramsey has two years left on his current deal and talks have not intensified to the point where a deal is anywhere near close.

Jacob Ramsey would love Champions League football

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that both Jacob Ramsey and Villa are considering whether a move this summer might be beneficial.

Nottingham Forest have been linked but, whilst there is some interest we are told a move to the City Ground looks unlikely at this point.

We understand that long-term admirers Newcastle and Tottenham both remain hugely keen on Ramsey, as they see him as a huge talent.

The chance to play Champions League football is so appealing to Ramsey, who maintains England ambitions.

“Jacob Ramsey is a huge talent, nobody has to tell Aston Villa that,” Bailey exclusively told TBR Football.

“But he is central to their plans? Maybe not, and the player knows that.

“Sometimes a move can just suit a player and a club, and this could be one of those instances.”

What Unai Emery has said about Jacob Ramsey that will appeal to his suitors

Ramsey has been in the sights of other Premier League clubs for a while now. Indeed, Chelsea and Arsenal have also been eyeing Ramsey.

Emery is clearly a huge fan of Ramsey, issuing a hands-off warning to other clubs a year ago.

He said in January 2024, as per The Independent: “Jacob Ramsey is a very important player. He grew up in the academy and his progression is getting better.

“His level is increasing a lot and I want to keep him here with us. Of course, there are movements (speculation) around him.

“Maybe there are teams involved in the possibility to sign him because he has a big, big potential at Villa and in England. I want to keep him here, 100 percent.”

However, as Bailey says, if Ramsey isn’t in line for many regular starts, then cashing in on him might be the best option.

In addition, selling Ramsey would represent a pure profit deal for Villa, which would be beneficial from a PSR point of view.
