Jacob Steinberg: West Ham Eyeing Move to Sign No.10 Compared to Lionel Messi…
West Ham United are “considering a move” for Romano Schmid, the Werder Bremen attacking midfielder, according to Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian.
Last summer, West Ham spent heavily to back Julen Lopetegui, the man chosen to replace David Moyes as manager. For whatever reason, the Spaniard struggled to make things click at the London Stadium and was sacked in January, just months into his tenure. In his place, the Hammers appointed Graham Potter.
The former Chelsea and Brighton boss saw out what was a massively underwhelming season for the club, who finished 15th in the Premier League. Potter is now in the midst of his first pre-season with the club and to strengthen his side, has signed full-backs El Hadji Malick Diouf and Kyle Walker-Peters as West Ham explore further deals.
Now, it would appear that the East London side are interested in strengthening their options in the attacking third of the pitch.

As per Jacob Steinberg, West Ham are weighing up the idea of making a bid for Romano Schmid. The 25-year-old has been with Werder Bremen since 2019 and has developed into a key part of their first team. Last season, the midfielder was ever present as Bremen finished eighth in the Bundesliga.

An Austrian international since 2022, Schmid, once dubbed the “Alpine Messi,” has attracted the attention of multiple Premier League clubs, including West Ham. Potter’s side are in need of creativity, especially since star attacker Mohammed Kudus has departed the club for Tottenham Hotspur within the current window.
Though no deal, at this stage, is advanced, Schmid would, reportedly, be available for around £13 million, which could prove to be a shrewd piece of business if West Ham choose to sign the playmaker.
