Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer might be left embarrassed as Manchester United close in on a deal for coveted striker Benjamin Sesko.
RB Leipzig hotshot Sesko is being courted by both Manchester United and Newcastle, with a £64million price tag slapped on his head. Leipzig’s failure to secure Champions League qualification means Sesko is likely heading for the Premier League this summer transfer window.

However, Manchester United won’t be featuring in any European competition next season after losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final. Following that defeat, Shearer ripped into Ruben Amorim’s squad, tearing apart their strategy and questioning the club’s entire direction, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, Shearer claimed: “They’re going to have to recruit very well because clearly a lot of these players are not good enough or not suited to that style of play. They’re a million miles off it on and off the pitch and I don’t know how they get out of this.”

Seemingly forgetting the size and stature of Manchester United, he added: “How do they attract top players this summer and are they even going to be able to pay for them now they’re not in the Champions League? Why would big players want to go there?”
