Liverpool agree deal that moves Newcastle United star one step closer to Anfield move….
Newcastle United aren’t giving up the fight to keep hold of Alexander Isak with chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan reportedly getting involved.
The Toon chairman and governor of the PIF stated in March that Alexander Isak is not for sale and that the club will resist any approach for the striker; however, as the summer window has gone on, it has become apparent that all is not well behind the scenes.
Isak was furious that the promise made over a new contract was broken when Paul Mitchell came into the club, and now with him leaving less than a year into the job, that’s really got to sting even more.
Additionally, Newcastle’s lack of progress on certain matters is starting to lead players, and indeed fans, to question the commitment of the PIF. Newcastle are seemingly unable to complete transfer deals, and there’s been no movement on a new stadium or training ground as promised. The club still doesn’t have a training kit sponsor. There are serious signs of a lack of ambition, and it seems that Isak has seen enough.

Luis Diaz’s imminent move to Bayern paves the way for Liverpool to snatch Alexander Isak
Newcastle have found themselves between a rock and a hard place, and Liverpool are making moves
It could be a case of too little, too late by Yasir Al-Rumayyan, though, as Liverpool have agreed a deal to sell Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, which should bring in the money they need to press ahead with a move for Isak, who seems pretty keen on a move to Anfield.
At this point, it feels like it’s going to be hard to convince Isak to stay unless the club shatters their wage structure. Still, that opens them up to a whole new world of issues with current players and future potential transfers who are all going to demand more money, having seen Isak being granted it.
Now that Liverpool has agreed a £65.5 million fee for Diaz, The Standard is reporting that a formal bid for Isak is expected this week, so the Toon’s resolve is about to be severely tested.
Is it even worth keeping Isak at this point?
The question for many fans is, if the PIF can convince Isak to stay at Newcastle for another year, will his head be in it enough to perform? We saw last season with Anthony Gordon the effect having your head turned can have on a player’s season.
Isak will still have to play well enough that Liverpool don’t have second thoughts, but if he’s heart isn’t in it, we’re not going to get the best out of him, and at that point, is he even worth having?
All signs point to an exit, but we absolutely must make sure that the money is reinvested and in this window. Hopefully, we can fend off Manchester United in the race for Benjamin Sesko. Reports are suggesting that we’re leading the way, but how many times have we seen that this summer already?
