Eddie Howe has again insisted he wants Alexander Isak to stay put at Newcastle United as he confirmed that Liverpool have not submitted a formal offer for the Swede. The striker was left out of the Magpies’ squad for their pre-season tour of the Far East as speculation about his future continues.

Newcastle put his absence down to a minor thigh injury, having also been left out of their squad for their pre-season friendly away at Celtic. However, Isak has told the Magpies that he would like to explore a move away from the club.

The Sweden international has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, but would reportedly favour a move to Liverpool.

“He is still our player. He’s contracted to us,” the Newcastle boss said at a press conference in Seoul. “We, to a degree, control what is next for him.
