Newcastle close to new signing with two exits set to be sanctioned – Report…
Newcastle’s summer has been a mess so far, with a total lack of signings and far too many rejections, but a couple of squad additions will be welcome if they arrive alongside a few ambitious arrivals.
After missing out on James Trafford to Man City, it emerged on Monday afternoon that the club are now in talks to sign current Southampton and former Arsenal and Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
It’s not an exciting move like Sesko or Scalvini, but it could make sense. Competition for Nick Pope with ability with his feet, someone Eddie Howe has signed before and an ‘association-trained’ player in the eyes of UEFA.
But it may free up funs to spend big elsewhere and facilitate the departure of two names in the process…
Exits on the cards for two Toon keepers
Newcastle are closing in on Aaron Ramsdale in a move that looks set to trigger exits for Martin Dubravka and Odysseas Vlachodimos, according to NewcastleWorld’s Liam Kennedy,
Confidence is growing that Newcastle will sign Ramsdale on loan with an option to buy – not an obligation – after talks with Southampton, with Fabrizio Romano adding that the player is keen and Newcastle happy to pay a hefty loan fee and his wages in full.
Dubravka, who was notably absent from the squad that travelled to Asia for pre-season, is in line for a permanent exit after over seven years at the club, with the Slovakian intent on playing regular first team football.
Vlachodimos, meanwhile, is likely heading out on loan, having barely played in black and white since arriving from Nottingham Forest last summer in a PSR-driven deal.
The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards previously hinted that Dubravka could have made his way to Burnley as part of the deal to bring James Trafford to Tyneside, before City’s eleventh hour swoop for the shot stopper.
And for Greek international Vlachodimos, he has previously rejected a loan move to Mexico, while Spanish side Villarreal have been linked with a move for the 31-year-old.

Dubravka exit on the cards for some time
It wouldn’t be far fetched to say that without Martin Dubravka last season, we’d likely not be in the Champions League.
The Slovakian proved his worth and then some when he deputised for the injured Nick Pope last winter, and even when it looked like a move to Saudi Arabia was on the cards in January, he signed a contract extension as a show of trust and support for the club.
Now faced with the prospect of Ramsdale pushing the 36-year-old back down the pecking order, this could be Dubravka’s opening to leave for a No 1 spot elsewhere at this stage of his career.
Moving both goalkeepers on would make sense to slim down our inflated goalkeeping department, with John Ruddy and Mark Gillespie at the club for training purposes more than anything.
