West Brom owner Shilen Patel: Buying the club changed my life – now for the Premier League

Serie A side move for West Brom defender with £10m bid tabled…

WBA – West Brom are just a week away from starting Championship life under Ryan Mason but they could be losing key man Torbjorn Heggem.

West Brom defender Torbjorn Heggem is the subject of interest from Serie A side Bologna, who have already had a bid rejected but talks are ongoing, reports the Express and Star.
West Brom are entering a fresh era under Ryan Mason, who took the reins earlier this summer following Tony Mowbray’s departure. With promotion back to the Premier League firmly in the WBA sights, Mason faces a challenging road ahead.

The Championship’s play-off battle promises to be fiercely competitive in the 2025/26 season, meaning the Baggies will need to be at their best to reclaim a top-six spot. New arrivals like Aune Heggebo are set to bolster the squad, but recent developments suggest that Albion may be on the verge of losing one of their key players.

According to the Express and Star, Serie A side Bologna are in talks to sign defender Torbjorn Heggem. Talks are currently ongoing between the two clubs over a potential £10m deal.

This comes after it was reported by The Athletic that Bologna had made a €6.5m offer. Heggem only joined WBA last summer for a fee of just £500,000, so a sale would represent a huge profit for the club.

Can West Brom afford to lose Torbjorn Heggem?
Torbjorn Heggem was a star for West Brom last season in his debut year. He took to the Championship like a duck to water, winning the player of the year award for the club.

He featured in all but one of the Baggies’ 46 games last year, all from the start. Over the course of those games, Heggem averaged a very solid 7.11 match rating, according to FOTMob.

The Baggies found a real gem when signing him for a minimal fee from Brommapojkarna. However, even with the huge profit, selling him at this stage in the window would be a huge risk.

Could this explain the current West Brom transfers?
So far this summer, it has been one of quality over quantity for the Baggies. West Brom have brought in just three players so far this window.

Two of those players though, have been central defenders. George Campbell and Nat Phillips have both made the move to the Hawthorns; the latter had been courted by several Championship sides after his spell on loan with Derby County last season.

With the club already well stocked at the back, the Baggies may have been planning for Heggem’s departure. It would be a big ask to step into the spot left by the big Norwegian. However, with the extra funds left in the bank if he does depart, WBA could have an interesting end to the window.
