£40m Aston Villa star could now suddenly help Unai Emery re-sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.
Aston Villa’s chances of re-signing Manchester United star Marcus Rashford may have just received a big boost.
The Englishman spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park, and he produced some very impressive performances.
Unai Emery’s side had the option to sign Rashford permanently for £40 million, but after failing to qualify for the Champions League, that move has become difficult.
Now, however, Villa could end up landing Rashford if they play their cards right.
Emiliano Martinez could help Aston Villa re-sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United
Like with Marcus Rashford, the future of Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez is up in the air.
The Argentine has been at Villa Park since joining them from Arsenal in the summer of 2020. He has been magnificent for them and has made a name for himself as one of the best in the business.
However, on the final day of last season, Martinez was in tears and waved goodbye to Villa fans, signalling that he could be on the move this summer.
GiveMeSport have now claimed that Martinez has ‘offered himself’ to Manchester United, and a deal could be done for around £40 million.
That fee complicates things for the Red Devils, who have their own PSR issues, but both clubs could get what they want in a potential swap deal.
Both Martinez and Rashford are said to be valued at £40 million – Villa can just propose a swap deal that would see the Englishman returning to the Midlands and the goalkeeper heading to Manchester United.
That may just be the best move for all parties involved, but Rashford’s salary could still be an issue.

Barcelona may have also done Aston Villa a favour in the Marcus Rashford race
At the end of his loan spell at Aston Villa, Rashford’s dream was to join Barcelona.
The Catalans are on the market for a new wide player, and the Manchester United attacker has many admirers at the Camp Nou.
However, Barcelona are closing in on the signing of Nico Williams, which suggests that they will not land Rashford too this summer.
That is again a big boost for Villa, who could potentially be the Manchester United man’s preferred destination now.
TBR Football exclusively revealed in May that Rashford has not closed the door on a return to Villa Park – he was never against the idea, but he just preferred Barcelona.
