John Eustace keen on Blackburn Rovers transfer as Derby County hunt attacker
Derby County news from DerbyshireLive brings you the latest as the Rams prepare to bolster their squad this summer
Derby County are keen on a move for Andi Weimann as they look to bolster their attacking options for next season.
DerbyshireLive understands John Eustace is keen on the Rams being reunited with the attacker who is available on a free transfer.
Blackburn have offered Weimann a new deal at Ewood Park, but Derby hope he will return to Pride Park for a second spell with the club.
The former Aston Villa attacker scored nine goals in all competitions for Rovers last season including seven in the league
A move for Weimann makes perfect sense given Derby are looking to bolster the strength in depth of their attack.
Weimann can play as a number 10 which would suit Eustace’s preferred formation of 4-2-3-1.
Derby are keen to revamp their attack after scoring 48 goals last season in the league, nearly half of which were from set-pieces.
Jerry Yates was the leading goalscorer with 10 goals with the second top scorer being Ebou Adams with six.
Weimann ironically scored against Derby at the beginning of the season when Rovers overcame Paul Warne’s side 4-2 at Ewood Park when Eustace was in charge.
Should Weimann seal his move to Pride Park, it will be his second spell at the club having joined Derby for an undisclosed fee back in 2015 from Aston Villa.

He made more than 80 league appearances for Derby and scored nine goals before moving on to Wolves on a loan deal before sealing a permanent switch to Bristol City.
Weimann scored 50 league goals in 205 appearances for the Robins before leaving for a loan spell with West Brom.
He eventually moved to Blackburn on a free transfer last summer and scored seven goals in the league and one each in the FA and League Cup.

New contract confirmed for Derby County hero as classy gesture revealed
Latest Derby County news from DerbyshireLive brings you news of a new deal for the long-serving Scot
Derby County’s longest-serving player Craig Forsyth has signed a new two-year contract, the club has confirmed.
And in what is a classy gesture by the Rams, the club will be helping the 36-year-old achieve his coaching qualification for when his career comes to an end.
Forsyth was exceptional for Derby in the latter half of last season and was offered fresh terms by head coach John Eustace.
Forsyth was deployed at either centre-back or wing-back as the Rams fought against relegation from the Championship.
He conjured up an assist in the vital 1-0 win at Hull City when his cross was met by Nat Phillips as Derby sealed an important victory.
And he also scored in wins over Blackburn and Preston as he finished the campaign with three goals to his name.

His contract will run until the summer of 2027, meaning he will have spent 14 years at Pride Park by the time it comes to an end having joined from Watford back in 2013.
Earlier this year, head coach John Eustace, who was Forsyth’s team-mate at Watford and Derby, praised his contribution to the cause.
“His level of professionalism, his dedication to the game, he’s a family guy and I was playing with him when he was 22, 23 at Watford and he was the kind of character that was always going to have a fantastic career,” he said.
“To still be playing at the level he’s playing at 36, he’s full credit to himself. He’s a top performer and a top lad.
“I kind of led him when he was a young kid (at Watford) and I looked after him. He obviously then came to Derby and had a great career here.
“I was lucky to have two good years playing with him as well here.
“I’ve got a huge respect for Fozzy to keep playing at the level he’s playing at.
