Jerry Yates is on the radar of a few clubs and we can say today that Blackpool have made a very tentative inquiry as to his position. Alongside this Derby County haven’t ruled him out as discussions with the Rams are proceeding.
However, it’s Blackpool fans themselves who have responded in their hundreds to us about Jerry going back to the seaside. In an incredible plea to the club and its owner, fifty five year old Simon Sadler who founded Segantii Capital Management – and bought the club for a rumoured ten million pounds in 2019. Sadler has steadied the club financially after years of conflict with the Oyston family leading up to 2019. However, he has had allegations of insider trading at Segantii Capital Management which he has pleaded not guilty to. When these allegations surfaced rumours spread earlier this year that Sadler would consider selling the club. To date nothing has materialised. He remains on bail until his trial date on the 26th May 2026 in Hong Kong along with trader, Daniel La Rocca.
Based on this we won’t make further comment.

What is clear is that Sadler has stated via the club that he would consider a sale but only if that potential purchaser, in his belief, could do a better job than him at Blackpool. Sadler is a local man who has gone from renting deckchairs on Blackpool beach to holding some huge investments. However, the vast majority of the clubs dealings in and out are free transfers and loans. Has Sadler got the same desire to bring Jerry Yates back to the north west as thousands of Seasiders ?
Because these people have.
There are so many more responses with loads of RT’s on X. Yates had a decent time at Blackpool, in the season before he came to the Swans he scored fifteen goals in all competitions with six assists. The Swans being a step up, some would say, proved a difficult time in his first season. Starting forty three league games he scored eight goals with one assist. The issue being his conversion rate on chances and his overall impact chasing down defenders. Many will say it’s his closing down that was poor, running at top speed towards his opponent and then slowing down a few metres short and not gambling on which way the ball would go. A bit like closing down a goalkeeper, take a gamble and you make your own luck.
Salary wise Yates is in and around 11k a week, and that wage needs to be freed up. He wouldn’t get that at Blackpool but he would be able to negotiate well and get at least a three year contract. It’s not so much about the fee, that can be spread over a three year contract and could cost as little as three hundred thousand a year.
We genuinely believe Blackpool would be a club he would again thrive at, his experience at the Swans and at Derby last season could make him an impactive striker in League One. If he does a quick ‘swim away’ against Cardiff that would go down nicely. The thing is really Blackpool is what you can easily call a ‘proper club’ Dominance with such players as Stanley Matthews and Jimmy Armfield. We mustn’t forget Ex Swans players are in the abundance from Emlyn Hughes, Tommy Hutchison, John Hills, Adrian Forbes, Stephen Dobbie, Lee Jones and Max Thompson, there’s so many more. We’ve always found a visit to Bloomfield Road as a throwback to the good old days when it comes to fan attitude.
Yes, a proper club.
Every footballer has a spiritual home and those Seasiders fans in Blackpool, and beyond, we hope see Jerry Yates in that famous tangerine shirt again.
