Stoke City join Ipswich Town in race to sign Man City attacker

Stoke City are considering making a move for Manchester City striker Divin Mubama.

Finding the back of the net was not one of the Potters’ strong points last season. Lewis Baker, a central midfielder, was their highest scorer with seven goals in the previous Championship campaign. None of their true strikers got more than three goals.

It’s clearly an area that they are looking to improve upon, but they may face some competition for the latest attacking target that they have been linked with.

Stoke looking into Divin Mubama move

Mubama, Man City’s 20-year-old centre-forward, linking up with the Potters this summer is “a real possibility,” according to Fraser Fletcher.

The former West Ham striker joined the former Premier League champions as a free agent last summer amid heavy links with Sunderland. He had a monster season for their under-21s side last season, netting 16 goals in 13 appearances.

Stoke would be looking to bring Mubama in on loan, according to Fletcher. Ipswich Town are also interested in him and would look to potentially buy the England under-20.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Ipswich sent an initial enquiry to City, who value the forward at £10 million, after their deal to sell former Stoke loanee Liam Delap to Chelsea for £30 million.

The Tractor Boys were also linked with one of the Blues’ own forwards, Marc Guiu. The Barcelona academy graduate is someone that they like, as per The Guardian, but he was reported to be unconvinced by a potential move to Portman Road and, therefore, a drop to Championship level.

Stoke’s transfer focus has also turned to Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan. Fletcher has also reported their interest in the 35-year-old, who has been offered a deal by the Owls, one that he is reportedly keen to accept, but his future remains up in the air as things stand. West Bromwich Albion and Wrexham are also keen on the Scotsman.

Stoke City will do well to pull off Divin Mubama coup ahead of Ipswich

Mubama would be a very strong addition for Stoke. His record at youth level speaks for itself, but his appearances for West Ham’s first-team before he left London also demonstrate how highly thought of he is.

One thing that never changes in football is where the goal is. There is absolutely no question that Mubama knows where the back of the net is. Their worry will be over whether they can beat off a team like Ipswich, with their finances, and their pull of being up near the top end of the Championship next season.
