‘Celtic backed to beat Everton and Nottingham Forest to Evan Ferguson deal..

Celtic are confident they can beat both Everton and Nottingham Forest to a deal to sign Brighton star Evan Ferguson on a season-long loan.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Brendan Rodgers is pushing to agree an ambitious deal.

Brighton
The 20-year-old struggled on loan at West Ham in the second half of last season, but there is still a feeling that he has more to give at Premier League level.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 20 June that Brighton have offered Ferguson to PSV while Forest and Everton continue to closely monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, Celtic believe their ability to offer him guaranteed playing time and Champions League football could swing the deal in their favour.

This comes after Football Insider revealed in March that Celtic plan to sign an A-list striker in the summer after losing Kyogo Furuhashi without signing a replacement.

Celtic eye ambitious move to sign Evan Ferguson on loan
Brown told Football Insider on 13 June that Brighton plan to send Ferguson out on loan again as he has no place in Fabian Hurzeler’s first-team plans.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted the Republic of Ireland need to prove himself with regular playing time on loan.

“Celtic can offer attractive opportunities to players like Ferguson,” he told Football Insider.

Brighton
“They’re going to be playing in the Champions League and competing for trophies, which would be valuable experience for a player of his age.

“He’d come in as their first-choice striker as well, he might not be guaranteed that elsewhere.

“Especially in the Premier League where he’s proved he struggles to hold down a starting place.

“He struggled on loan at West Ham last year and now he needs to put down a marker and show he can be the player everybody thinks he can be.

“For a team like Everton or Forest, he would still have a lot to offer.

Brighton

“But he could go to Celtic as the main man up front, away from the pressure that comes with the Premier League, and prove what he can do.

“I think Brendan Rodgers will be pushing to get that done, he wants to be ambitious in the market.

“He expects to be backed and this would be a statement of intent, even if it’s on a loan deal.”

Kyogo Furuhashi to make sensational Parkhead return
Ferguson is not the only striker to be linked with a move to Parkhead this summer, as they continue to weigh up a sensational return for Kyogo.

Brighton

Football Insider revealed on 15 June that Kyogo could return to Celtic after being frozen out at Rennes, just six months after joining the Ligue 1 club.

The Japan international left Parkhead to join Rennes for £10million in January, but dropped out of the squad following Jorge Sampaoli’s departure.

Football Insider revealed in March that Celtic could agree a deal for Kyogo’s return if they can strike a deal which is too good to turn down.
