Wolves duelling Nuno Espirito Santo for ‘elite’ midfielder who Goncalo Guedes is familiar with
Vitor Pereira is looking to make reinforcements to his engine room at Wolves as he prepares to bolster that position.
Andre and Joao Gomes have blossomed into a wonderful partnership in the middle of the park, but depth is an issue heading into the 2025/26 season.
With Tommy Doyle closing in on a loan move to Birmingham City and Boubacar Traore facing an uncertain future, at least one midfielder is required.
Vitor Pereira is letting Doyle leave as he isn’t physical enough to play in his system; meanwhile, Traore has never been a prominent figure at Wolves, even before his injury last August.
So, with an opportunity for someone to challenge Andre and Gomes in the engine, Pereira may have found the perfect candidate.
Wolves and Nottingham Forest want AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah
According to Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Luca Bianchin, Wolves are interested in AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah, and they’re joined in their pursuit by Nottingham Forest, who initiated talks in recent days.
Bianchin claims that the Premier League is the ‘most likely’ destination for Musah, and Milan are willing to let him leave for £20 million – £25 million.
A box-to-box midfielder, Musah played a prominent role for the Italian side last term with 40 appearances in all competitions and three assists.
The 22-year-old is also a prominent figure for the USMNT, having already recorded 40 caps for his country despite his young age.
Mauricio Pochettino previously praised Musah after shutting down Vinicius Jr during Milan’s 3-1 victory over Real Madrid in November.
That was one of seven appearances the Arsenal academy graduate made in the Champions League, with former manager Nuno Espirito Santo now battling Wolves to capture him.
Musah played with Goncalo Guedes at Valencia
Musah was lauded as an ‘elite’ midfielder by talent scout Jacek Kulig after his impressive performances at the 2022 World Cup.
Aged just 20 at the time, the youngster impressed with his dynamism, athleticism and ball-carrying abilities as the USMNT reached the knockout stages of the competition.
Pereira would love to have Musah in his ranks, as the Milan star is also capable on the right side of midfield, potentially being someone who can play in a right wing-back role.
Musah’s arrival would also be endorsed by forward Goncalo Guedes, who played with the Portuguese star during his time at Valencia between 2020 to 2023.
The pair shared a pitch 48 times together and built a connection on the pitch, which could return to Molineux.
Wolves finally have a transfer advantage as Vitor Pereira holds the key to ending Arsenal’s hopes
Wolves could hold a transfer advantage over Arsenal in the race to sign one midfield target.
Despite Joao Gomes and Andre being Vitor Pereira’s untouchable pivot in the position, it’s expected that Wolves will recruit a midfielder this summer.
Tommy Doyle is set to leave Wolves in the coming weeks, as Birmingham City close in on capturing the Englishman’s signature.
Doyle doesn’t fit Pereira’s style at Molineux, paving the way to his exit just one year after making his move from Manchester City permanent.
The door is now open for the Old Gold to sign a midfielder better suited to the manager’s system, with several targets identified.
Wolves’ transfer advantage over Arsenal for Breno Bidon
One player linked to bolster Pereira’s midfield is a talent well known to the Wolves manager.
Wolves have enquired about Breno Bidon, a 20-year-old Brazilian midfielder currently representing Corinthians.
Before the summer transfer window opened, Wolves were linked to Bidon, with interest potentially reaching a new level, as Corinthians deem the youngster an asset they’re ready to sell to generate funds.
Wolves could capture the Brazil U20 international for as little as £12.8m, despite the teen being protected by a release clause of £85m.
While the opportunity is there, the Old Gold aren’t alone in their admiration for the player, with Arsenal also eyeing the starlet, whom they could offer Champions League football.
