Coventry City’s rivals release manager exit statement 22 hours after 2025/26 fixtures confirmed

The latest Championship news from CoventryLive as the Sky Blues’ rivals are in turmoil after parting ways with Ruud van Nistelrooy

Leicester City’s pre-season to-do list now includes finding a new manager after Ruud van Nistelrooy left the King Power Stadium.

Coventry City’s rivals are back in the Championship after a dire Premier League campaign saw them relegated without much of a fight as van Nistelrooy oversaw just four wins from his 19 games in charge.

That has led to the former Manchester United favourite leaving the Foxes by mutual consent and the search for a new boss begins, just three days before their players return for pre-season.

A Leicester statement read: “Ruud has overseen a challenging period for the club.

“From his appointment in November 2024, he approached the role with professionalism, integrity and a clear commitment to our aims, including through the integration of several promising players from the Club’s Academy into our First Team environment.

“Ruud moves on with the respect and thanks of everyone at the Football Club for his dedication and hard work, and with our very best wishes for the future.

“Preparation for the EFL Championship season will continue with the planned start of pre-season on Monday 30 June.

“First Team coaching staff will oversee the delivery of those plans until a new manager is appointed.

“There will be no further comment until this process has been completed.”

Van Nistelrooy said: “I would like to personally thank the Leicester City players, coaches, academy and all the staff I have worked with for their professionalism and dedication during my time at the club and to thank the fans for their support, and take this opportunity to wish the club well for the future.”

Leicester face a testing summer with the threat of a points deduction still hanging in the air over alleged PSR breaches.

They will renew their rivalry with the Sky Blues in the Championship next season, when Frank Lampard takes his team up the M69 in the seventh game, scheduled for September 20.

The Foxes come to the CBS Arena on January 17, 2026.

The last time they were in the Championship they kicked off what turned out to be a promotion campaign with a 2-1 home victory over Mark Robins’ side, with a Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall double cancelling out a Kyle McFadzean goal.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl and ex-Everton manager Sean Dyche have been linked with King Power role.
