Derby County launch £5m+ bid for striker amid Ipswich Town interest
Derby County have made a bid in the region of $7m for Charlotte FC striker Patrick Agyemang.
The 24-year-old centre-forward has scored eight goals and provided two assists in 18 total appearances for the MLS outfit in the 2025 season so far.
Agyemang has also proven his credentials on the international stage, netting five times in nine games for the USA national team.
Derby County make huge bid for Patrick Agyemang
Derby are looking to back manager John Eustace this summer, and have targeted Agyemang to strengthen their frontline.
According to BBC Derby’s senior sports journalist Dominic Dietrich via X, the Rams have made a bid for the forward that is close to the $7m mark, which is approximately £5.1m.
Fabrizio Romano had previously stated that Derby were “closing in” on a deal for the 24-year-old, whilst GIVEMESPORT’s USA reporter Tom Bogert contradicted that report, stating that Derby aren’t as close to a deal for the forward as originally thought with no deal yet agreed.
Fellow Championship outfit Ipswich Town are also reported to be working on a deal to secure Agyemang’s signature too.
The Rams are keen to beat out their second-tier rivals though, with their mammoth bid a clear statement of intent.
Agyemang signed for Charlotte FC in February 2023 via the MLS SuperDraft, as the 12th overall selection. Before his professional career, the marksman spent time at the University of Rhode Island and Eastern Connecticut State University.
The striker’s first season at Charlotte FC saw him split his time between the club’s first team and their MLS NEXT Pro (the nation’s development division) outfit, Crown Legacy FC. Netting 10 times in 12 appearances there saw him solidify his place in the main side’s 11, where he has remained ever since.
Since then, he has bagged 18 times in 54 outings for Charlotte FC, earning himself a call-up to the USMNT by Mauricio Pochettino in January.
Derby County’s Patrick Agyemang bid could be a huge risk
Eustace’s gamble to leave play-off chasing Blackburn Rovers for relegation-threatened Derby County last season ultimately paid off, as the 45-year-old managed to help the Rams retain their Championship status.
Now, he will no doubt reap the rewards of what he was promised – a much more ambitious attitude in the transfer market when compared to his previous employers.
$7m/£5.1m is a huge amount of money, more than what a lot of clubs in the second-tier will spend during the entirety of their summer transfer window.
Therefore, Eustace and Co. must be 100 per cent certain that Agyemang is worth every penny, as after the signing of Carlton Morris, the Rams look to be set on seriously sharpening their cutting edge in attack in order to mount a serious promotion push next term.
