Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have all but confirmed Paul Mullin has played his last game for the club..
Heading to Wigan Athletic on loan, there’s every chance that Paul Mullin returns to the club and plays again. But there’s also an overwhelming sense that this is the end.
Wrexham owe so much to Paul Mullin. But as his goals have fired the club up the Football League, he’s been left behind, and he’s now been sent on loan to Wigan Athletic for the 2025/26 season.
Phil Parkinson said Mullin wanted to leave on loan this summer, with Wigan a viable option given its location and the fact that they’re in need of new strikers for the new season.
And it brings an end to what’s been a bit of a saga, sometimes a palaver, for Mullin at Wrexham in 2025. He played just one game for the Dragons after January. He couldn’t get anywhere near the matchday squad for the most part.
The 30-year-old remains under contract for two more years. Next summer he’ll return to the Racecourse where he and Parkinson will evaluate what’s next. But there’s a sense that he’s played his last game for the club.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s messages to Paul Mullin says a lot about his Wrexham future
Since Mullin’s move to Wigan was confirmed, fans, players and everyone in between have been posting on social media, giving their thanks to Mullin for all he’s done for the club. It’s as if he’s left the club on a permanent deal. But they’re not the only ones. The owners have done similar.
Ryan Reynolds posted on social media after the move. Reynolds’ message to Mullin read: “I can’t imagine seeing Mulls on loan and in another kit. We wouldn’t be where we are without his heart, skill and work ethic. We love you, Paul Mullin.”
Rob McElhenney also posted. McElhenney said after Mullin’s Wrexham exit: “In 4 years Paul Mullin has made history on and off the pitch. I am profoundly, truly, madly, deeply grateful for everything that Paul has given this club. There is just so much to say but I’ll keep it at this… There is only one Super Paul Mullin.”

The way they post feels like a goodbye. A permanent one. Is the loan deal something of a façade? Has Mullin played his last game for Wrexham?

Here is the only way that Paul Mullin plays for Wrexham again…
Every player has their ceiling. Maybe Mullin found his in League One. Though he certainly wasn’t helped by injuries, and he might prove any doubter wrong next season and be one of the top scorers in the league.
Wrexham as a club, they haven’t found their ceiling yet. In fact, their ceiling looks like the Premier League, which is the ceiling in English football.
