Daniel Cummings’ West Ham shirt number revealed as Mohamadou Kante trains for the first time.

West Ham United’s Under-21 coach Mark Robson got his first look at Daniel Cummings this week after the Scottish striker arrived at the Premier League outfit from Celtic.

And while the teenager will play youth team football at the start of pre-season, it is understood that Cummings has moved south of the border very much with a senior spot in his sights.

Former captain and current sporting director Mark Noble was glowing in his praise for Daniel Cummings during his unveiling as a West Ham United player on Tuesday.

He scored 38 goals in 58 games for Celtic’s B team. Six, as well, during seven UEFA Youth League appearances last season.

And, pictured taking part in training with the rest of Mark Robson’s reserves for the first time, Cummings’ shirt number appears to have been revealed.

It is a familiar number, as well.

Daniel Cummings made his senior debut for Celtic in a Champions League defeat by Aston Villa in January wearing the number 55 on his back.

“We’ve been back in for a couple of days now,” Robson explains. “There’s been some testing, some light work, and a lot of physical preparation. That’s what pre-season is about, getting the players fit and ready for the season ahead.”

Cummings could make his unofficial West Ham reserve-team debut against National League South outfit Worthing on July 12th. They will also face Maidenhead United, Ebbsfleet, Boreham Wood and a Northampton Town outfit now coached by former captain and assistant coach Kevin Nolan.

Robson explains pre-season plans as Mohamadou Kante arrives
“It’s always tough, but we’re going to push even harder this year,” adds Robson, whose young Hammers finished fourth in the Premier League 2 table last season. We want the group to be in the best possible place when the season starts. It’s going to be another long campaign with lots of matches.”

“It’s a busier schedule than previous years, which is intentional. We’ve got a large squad at the moment and want to give everyone opportunities to play and get minutes during this period.

“They’re tough fixtures, games against men, but that’s the next level these boys are striving to reach. These tests are exactly what they need.”

“I’m really looking forward to working with the group. It’s fantastic to watch these young players develop, not just in terms of football, but as people too.”

Midfielder Mohamadou Kante arrived at West Ham alongside Cummings on July 1st.

A Tim Steidten signing, Kante spent last season on loan with Paris FC, helping a team based quite literally a stone’s throw away from PSG’s Parc des Princes stadium reach promotion to France’s top flight.

Goalkeeper Mason Terry could also be seen in training, alongside Patrick Kelly and Gideon Kodua. All three players enjoyed impressive loan spells of their own in 2024/25.
