Wrexham given fresh hope of Jamie Vardy transfer after latest update Phil Parkinson will be buzzing…

Jamie Vardy remains without a club going into the summer, following his release at Leicester City. Wrexham have long been linked, though the Dragons face stiff competition for his signature.

Jamie Vardy has left Leicester City after a hugely successful and memorable 13-year spell at the club, which saw him score 200 goals in 500 games.

For a while now, Wrexham have been linked with a move for Vardy. But there are other clubs looking at a potential deal for the 38-year-old, with the likes of Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Leeds United linked.

Phil Parkinson is in desperate need of more strikers this summer. Already, Wrexham have signed Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle, but much more is needed at the Racecourse if Wrexham are to compete next season.

And Vardy’s record speaks for itself: 145 goals in 352 Premier League games, a Premier League title, and 38 goals in 98 Championship games in his career, making him a potentially perfect signing for Wrexham this summer.

What Jamie Vardy wants from his next club as Wrexham make checks
Since the end of last season there seems to have been a bit of confusion about where Vardy might end up. There’s been rumours that Vardy could move to the MLS, and rumours that he could head to Scotland, with Rangers having been linked quite heavily with a move for the 26-cap former England striker.

But The Telegraph have now revealed what Vardy wants from his next club. They say that he’s now a target for Burnley, but that ‘factors in his next move will include whether he will be a regular starter, or a player who comes off the bench for one of the bigger teams’.

For Wrexham, that could be a huge boost as he’d surely be a starter for the Dragons next season in the Championship, whereas if he joined a Premier League team or even Rangers, there might not be a guarantee that he starts every week.

What Ben Foster said about Jamie Vardy joining Wrexham is very interesting
There are certainly a lot of options for Vardy this summer. Expect him to take his time in finding the perfect next club for him, but with this new information, we might be able to rule out a Premier League move.

It seems unlikely that at any of the promoted teams, Vardy would be the starting striker throughout next season. A Championship move or an MLS move seems much more realistic and there’s long-standing Wrexham interest, with the club’s story and their incredible rise surely attractive to any player.

Speaking at the start of summer though, Ben Foster gave his verdict on Vardy’s future, and he completely ruled out a Championship move, playing up an MLS move instead. Foster said: “The only options, abroad, he could go to America. If he’s at that point where he’s like ‘me and the Mrs and the kids going to go out there for a couple of years’.”

Wrexham can offer Vardy regular starting football for a year, and then he could go out to the States. But what comes of the striker this summer remains a bit of a mystery right now.
