Everton’s first pre-season outing of the summer ended in a 1-1 draw against Accrington Stanley.

Despite a dominant first half from the Blues, David Moyes’ side found themselves behind shortly after the break.

Beto was able to come on in the second half and level the score with a stunning penalty, which he slammed into the top corner.

Everton have now secured their third signing of the summer, with the addition of Mark Travers as backup goalkeeper.

None of the new faces were on display, but returning midfielder Carlos Alcaraz was there for the fans to enjoy.

Everton fans were delighted with Harrison Armstrong’s display, but there was one player who Moyes could be heard barking constant instructions at the Wham Stadium.

Along with Armstrong, Everton fans could be heard singing Michael Keane’s name as the defender made his first appearance following his new deal.

There is still a lot of room for improvement with this Everton side, but securing the likes of Alcaraz to a permanent stay is a big boost.

According to journalist Matt Jones, Moyes could be heard shouting orders at the Argentine during the opening 20 minutes of the game.

Moyes loved what he saw from Alcaraz last season, despite Abdoulaye Doucoure initially looking like the Scot’s first choice.

But the 62-year-old will still provide his players with ways to improve, and that was evident on Tuesday night.

It was not just Moyes who was pleased to see the midfielder back on Merseyside, with Beto praising Alcaraz last season for his creativity.

Now it is time for the Blues to really push on in the market and bring in even more quality ahead of the trip to the United States.

It is claimed Everton have £100m to spend this summer, and Moyes wants to see that spent relatively quickly.

Speaking after Travers was confirmed on Tuesday, Moyes issued another transfer message to the owners.

“We are continuing to work on bringing in more players ahead of the start of the season,” he said.
