Liverpool could consider a renewed move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, as uncertainty continues to swirl around Mohamed Salah’s long-term future at Anfield.

The Reds have made an approach for Isak, but Newcastle remains firm in its stance that the striker is not for sale. Isak is content at St. James’ Park and has three years remaining on his current contract, meaning there is no immediate pressure on the club to sanction a move this summer.

According to Miguel Delaney of The Independent, Liverpool appears likely to miss out on the Swedish international this summer.

While that may offer some relief for the Magpies, it is noted that Liverpool is unlikely to walk away from the situation entirely.

Writing in his Reading The Game newsletter, Delaney suggests that the Reds could revive its interest in Isak should Salah eventually depart Anfield.

The 33-year-old signed a new two-year deal in April, but his long-term future remains a topic of speculation. Delaney says there is a “new uncertainty” surrounding Newcastle, hinting that shifting dynamics behind the scenes could yet influence transfer decisions.

While Salah did sign a new deal in the summer, it is suggested that his eventual departure “might end up aligning” with a renewed move for Isak.

Isak has emerged as one of the world’s premier strikers in recent years, and Liverpool are known to be long-time admirers of the Swedish forward.

He played a key role in ending Newcastle United’s 70-year wait for silverware last season, helping Eddie Howe’s side defeat Liverpool at Wembley to lift the Carabao Cup.

Isak further impressed in the Premier League clash at St James’ Park in December, where he scored a stunning long-range goal in a thrilling 3-3 draw against the Reds.

Following Callum Wilson’s departure earlier this summer, Isak was widely expected to inherit the number nine shirt for the 2025/26 campaign, especially as Newcastle return to the Champions League for the second time in three seasons.

However, uncertainty looms beyond next season. Isak’s current contract runs until 2028, but if no extension is agreed, Newcastle could face a decision in 2026 — when he enters the final two years of his deal — potentially opening the door for a high-profile move.
