Sheffield Wednesday in talks over first summer signing, it won’t fix alarming Chansiri situation..
Sheffield Wednesday are in talks over a potential arrival of a midfielder, but one concern still looms for the club this summer.
This summer has seen Sheffield Wednesday’s squad ripped apart, with several key first-team players moving on ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season.
Sheffield Wednesday are significantly unprepared for the season ahead after the notable departures of Josh Windass, Michael Smith, Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba.
Very little funding has been attained regarding departures, leaving Dejphon Chansiri in a difficult state regarding the running of Sheffield Wednesday.
A glimmer of positive news, however, has emerged for Sheffield Wednesday as they close in on a new arrival, but it won’t take attention away from the issues at the club at this moment.

Sheffield Wednesday in talks over Mohamed Konate deal
Ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season, the Owls’ first-team squad has been severely depleted, although they look close to making one addition.
As revealed by The Star, Sheffield Wednesday are taking part in discussions over a deal to sign free agent Mohamed Konate.
The 20-year-old previously played for Portuguese third-division side SC Covilha, where his contract has since expired, making him a free agent.
In usual circumstances, it would be expected that Konate would join up with Sheffield Wednesday’s academy, based on his age and lack of experience, but Dejphon Chansiri may be bringing him in as cover for the first team.

Mohamed Konate deal does not take away from Sheffield Wednesday mess
Whilst it is positive to see Sheffield Wednesday looking to bring in Mohamed Konate, ultimately his likely arrival will not solve anything.
Either the Ivory Coast defensive midfielder will line up for the youngsters, which continues to leave Sheffield Wednesday with limited options, or he is thrown into the deep end by being utilised in the Championship. Problems spring up, no matter how he will be utilised.
Sheffield Wednesday have their own priorities at this moment, and ultimately, this shouldn’t be one of them. With less than three weeks until the season starts, Barry Bannan is still not tied down to a new contract, whilst current first teamers will likely continue to depart from the club.
