Potter ‘dislikes’ Edson Alvarez as West Ham seek deal with buying club…

Edson Alvarez has struggled during his time at West Ham United.

Alvarez, 27, arrived at the London Stadium in 2023 from Ajax for £35million, but has failed to establish himself in East London.

The Mexican has been linked with moves to Borussia Dortmund and Monaco, following his country’s victory in the Gold Cup.

His future at the London Stadium looks bleak after the latest developments.

West Ham offering Alvarez to potential suitors
Alvarez was not getting as much regular game time towards the end of the season, completing over 60 minutes in just one of West Ham’s final 10 Premier League games.

El Diario’s print edition (page 22, 20 July) reports that Graham Potter does not like the Mexico captain, and this could motivate his departure.

They report that the Hammers have to start offering Alvarez out to potential buyers to force him out of the club.

Alvarez needs to leave to save his career
The midfielder’s time in East London has been a complete disaster.

Alvarez has been unable to secure the defensive midfield spot since he arrived from Holland, with his best position and role still to be determined following his performances for Mexico.

There is potential in the ex-Ajax man, and that can get West Ham a decent return for their £35m investment.

Edson Alvarez defensive stats 2024/25 Total
Tackles per 90 2.54
Clearances per 90 2.34
Aerials won per 90 1.52
Alvarez was still strong defensively despite a poor season
Despite both he and West Ham in general having poor seasons, Alvarez still showed off his defensive prowess in spells during the season.

The Mexican’s style of play isn’t suited for English football, which has become a common theme with Hammers arrivals in recent years.

A move abroad may be best to revive Alvarez’s career.
