The latest Liverpool transfer news and gossip including updates on Alexander Isak and Giovanni Leoni..
Liverpool are reportedly set to open talks with Newcastle United over a deal for Alexander Isak. The Reds have long admired the Sweden international, but their pursuit took a turn when it emerged that he had informed Newcastle he wants to explore his options.
While the club initially cited injury as the reason for his absence on their pre-season tour, reports now suggest the striker is eager to pursue a new challenge. The Toon, however, are said to be standing firm, demanding a fee exceeding £150 million if they are to cash in this summer.
This comes shortly after Liverpool confirmed the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike.
With Luis Diaz also set to join Bayern Munich after a £65.5million deal was agreed, attention now inevitably shifts to what comes next for the club and Isak is believed to be high on their list of potential targets.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri claims Liverpool plan to open talks with Newcastle within the next 48 hours to inform them that a ‘written offer will be submitted’ for their talisman.
The report claims Isak has already Liverpool’s management the green light on personal terms.
Tavolieri also notes that a five-year contract perfectly matches the player’s salary expectations.
Elsewhere, Liverpool are said to be one of the clubs gathering information about Parma centre-back Giovanni Leoni.
Corriere dello Sport claims Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur are also doing likewise.
Parma reportedly wanting at least €35m (£30m) for the 18-year-old defender.
Leoni made 17 appearances in Serie A last season, starting in all but three of those games.
