How much Barry Bannan has lost in wages since Sheffield Wednesday contract expired his loyalty is unrivalled….
Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan’s contract at the club has expired, and he has since missed out on a hefty wage as he continues to show loyalty to the club.
Sheffield Wednesday have hit crisis territory this summer after the uncertainties surrounding player payments snowballed into a challenging financial issue in S6.
Dejphon Chansiri has since attempted to sell the club; however, his valuation for Sheffield Wednesday continues to price out potential buyers.
Aside from the behind-the-scenes shenanigans, Sheffield Wednesday are less than two weeks away from kicking off their 2025/26 Championship season on the road to recently-relegated Leicester City, and their first-team has been stripped to its bare bones.
One man whose future at Hillsborough Stadium is uncertain is Barry Bannan, a club captain who has given so much for Sheffield Wednesday, but in return has been left dispensable by Chansiri.
The Sheffield Wednesday club captain has been out of contract since June 30th, and in that time he has missed out on a sizeable chunk of wages.

How much pay Barry Bannan has missed out on since Sheffield Wednesday contract ended
According to Capology, Barry Bannan was reportedly on a wage of £24,038 per week during the 2024/25 Championship season, making him the club’s highest earner.
However, since Bannan’s contract came to an end on June 30th, he has not earned a penny from the club – leaving him significantly in the deficit as he continues to face uncertainty about his career.
As he earned an estimated £3,434 per day at Sheffield Wednesday, in the 28 days he has been out of contract, he has reportedly lost out on a total of £96,152.

Barry Bannan’s loyalty is unwavering.
In such a situation, no Sheffield Wednesday fan would begrudge Barry Bannan from finding his next Championship club. Wrexham had shown interest in the Scotsman this summer, where they easily may have offered more than he was on at Sheffield Wednesday, but he remains committed to S6.
Bannan is unlikely to have received any reassurance from the club about being offered a contract, but he still remains in training – showing that, even without the contract, he is still committing his future to the club, or at least hopes to.
It is safe to say that Bannan is a rare breed in football. You often see footballers aim for financial security in their career, but the Scotsman has put that on standby, showing his dedication and sacrifice to Sheffield Wednesday.
