Four winners and one loser as Man Utd agree deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford..
At last, Manchester United’s deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo has been agreed for a fee in the region of £70m.
After weeks of talks, the two Premier League clubs have finally come to terms with a deal for the Cameroonian to play at Old Trafford next season.

Manchester United’s first bid of £45m plus £10m was rejected three weeks ago, and negotiations took place between then and last weekend.
United offered £62.5m for Mbeumo, but even this required another few weeks at the negotiating table. However, there is now finally an agreement in place.
The third offer has been submitted to Brentford, with United offering £65m plus £5m in add-ons, which reaches the upper limits of the price tag that the Bees had for Mbeumo.
On Friday, Brentford accepted United’s bid which sees Mbeumo arrive for £65m up front and then an additional £6m in add-ons.

With confirmation pending, now would be a good time to consider the winners and losers of Mbeumo joining United.

Winners
Starting with the winners from the deal…
Joshua Zirkzee
One big winner from the transfer will be Joshua Zirkzee, who could find a new lease of life in the striker position with Mbeumo behind him.

Ruben Amorim has big plans for Zirkzee at United next season. It could come in a new striker role that places less of a burden on the Dutchman running in behind, which Mbeumo can offer instead, while Zirkzee focuses on link-up and creating for his teammates.
With Rasmus Hojlund expected to be sold and no number nine through the door yet, Zirkzee has impressed in pre-season and may start the season as Amorim’s number nine along with Chido Obi. If Zirkzee is to succeed at United up front, the club is providing him with teammates who can help him achieve this.

Matheus Cunha
In addition to Zirkzee, Matheus Cunha is another beneficiary of Mbeumo’s arrival, with the Brazilian having an attacking partner who is as creative as he is and also poses a goal threat.

The pair should be an impressive duo and frighten the majority of the league, having a combined 35 goals in the division last season.
Together, this should be an attack capable of firing United up the league table, and we cannot wait to see how this works over the next few months. Cunha has been an instant hit for United in pre-season and hopefully Mbeumo will follow suite.

Bruno Fernandes
One winner who isn’t a prominent benefactor is Bruno Fernandes, with Mbeumo’s arrival all but confirming that Amorim intends to use his captain in a deeper midfield role.

Fernandes, however, will be happy with this role, as it was here last season that he put in his best performances, helping to run the show. It suits him more with his maturity and clearly signals that the pressure is now off his shoulders in terms of expecting goals and assists every game.
Fernandes has been a one-man team for years, well, that should no longer be the case, and his long passing ability should be a treat with Mbeumo’s running in behind.

Amad
Another player displaced by the attacking business this summer is Amad, but it may be for the better.
Last season, Amad was much better as a wing-back, where he could run with the ball down the wing. He was at his dangerous best here, and he will only get more dangerous with Mbeumo’s arrival.
Mbeumo and Amad can form a devastating partnership for United down the right with both capable of going either way, scoring and assisting, and also have tremendous work rates.

Danger for the rest of the league.

Losers
And on to the one major loser from this deal…
Mason Mount
One player who has lost this summer after the £125m double swoop to overhaul the attacking midfield is Mason Mount.
After injuries plagued his opening two seasons, the past few months of last season showed glimpses of what could be, if he managed to stay fit.
Mount played himself into the starting line-up, but has now been replaced to the point where it is tough to imagine him starting games unless something goes wrong.
Mount can still be a strong squad player for United, but it certainly feels like his dreams of being a star for the team are over.
