Six Celtics players will sit out Monday’s exhibition game against the Knicks.
On Monday night, when the Celtics play the second game of a preseason back-to-back against the Knicks, they will gradually introduce their star players to the preseason schedule. The team will rest its regular players for the game against the division foe, Joe Mazzulla informed reporters in New York.
After playing more than 20 minutes in Sunday’s victory over the 76ers, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday, and Derrick White will all have the night off. Boston is counting on Payton Pritchard, Dalano Banton, Sam Hauser, Oshae Brissett, and Luke Kornet to start in their stead while they are away.
After receiving his contract extension, Pritchard put on a standout performance in the first preseason game, scoring.
“I mean, what you saw tonight and what you’ll see throughout the year is just his mindset, and his professionalism to just be prepared over the last three years,” Mazzulla said of Pritchard following Sunday’s victory. And men like him receive some form of compensation. And as I have stated, we will rely on him to add yet another dimension of physicality, mental toughness, and, frankly, the entire unit, to our play.
Oshae, Lamar, Luke, Banton, and Sam, for example, must be able to comprehend what is happening in the game and what we require at a specific moment. As a result, they were aware that it was a close game.
