Newcastle United agree multi-million deal after top European clubs move

Adidas is set to become the official kit supplier for both Aston Villa and Newcastle United starting from the 2024-25 season.

Aston Villa has joined the ranks of Premier League teams collaborating with Adidas for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Similar to Newcastle United, Aston Villa is parting ways with Castore.

Newcastle had previously revealed in September that Adidas would be making a comeback as the club’s official kit partner, marking a reunion after a 10-year separation. The announcement was inadvertently leaked by Amazon in the fourth episode of ‘We Are Newcastle United’ prior to the match against Manchester City on Saturday, August 19.

The episode was removed on the same day, but by then, the news had already been revealed two weeks ahead of schedule. The leaked content showcased members of Newcastle United’s board, including co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, along with Chief Executive Officer Darren Eales and Chief Commercial Officer Pete Silverstone, visiting Adidas’ headquarters in Germany.

The narrated clip by Newcastle legend Alan Shearer revealed the club’s meeting with Adidas to secure what was described as the most significant deal in the club’s history, potentially worth hundreds of millions over an initial five-year period. Mehrdad Ghodoussi also likened it to “two old lovers getting back together.”

Both Newcastle and Aston Villa encountered issues with their current kit supplier, Castore, leading to the early termination of their agreements. According to the Daily Telegraph, Aston Villa is entering a long-term, multi-million-pound deal with Adidas.

Adidas, known for its kit deals with some of the world’s biggest clubs, already has agreements with Premier League teams such as Manchester United, Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, and Fulham. Newcastle is reported to be part of Adidas’ ‘elite package,’ which includes bespoke kit designs, authentic shirts, and long-sleeve kits.

During their previous tenure as Newcastle United’s kit manufacturer from 1995 to 2010, Adidas played a significant role in producing some of the club’s most iconic Premier League shirts. This was particularly evident during the Kevin Keegan’s “Entertainers” era in the 1990s. The partnership with Adidas during that period left a lasting legacy, contributing to the club’s rich history and memorable moments on the field.
