ESPN REPORT:  Atlanta Falcons Added Three Sensational Top Players Hours Ago

While the Falcons are among the most improved teams this summer, ESPN falls short.

The Falcons invested almost $200 million in free agency to sign both Darnell Mooney, an exciting pass receiver, and Kirk Cousins, the finest quarterback available.

The Falcons made a lot of significant acquisitions throughout the offseason, despite their small number. In contrast, ESPN placed them as the third most improved club this offseason, after the Texans (1), Jaguars (2), and Commanders (3).

Notable acquisitions include TE Charlie Woerner, WR Darnell Mooney, and QB Kirk Cousins.

Although there aren’t many new players on this list, one of them will probably end up becoming the biggest free agent signing of the offseason.

Despite having to heal from a ruptured right Achilles tendon, the cousins should be prepared for Week 1. Before the injury in October, he was playing some of his finest football, leading the league in passing yards and touchdown passes.

With coordinator Zachary Robinson calling plays, WR Drake London, RB Bijan Robinson, TE Kyle Pitts, and quick former Chicago No. 1 WR Mooney as his main targets, he will spearhead a revamped offense. Atlanta is also primed for a major offensive breakthrough since it has all five starters from one of the best offensive lines in the league back.

The fact that the guys who played 76% of Atlanta’s 2023 defensive snaps were still on the field as of Tuesday afternoon is encouraging for a team that finished the regular season with the 12th-highest EPA. It also clarifies the Falcons’ lack of activity this week on that side of the ball.

The Jaguars traded for Mac Jones, re-signed Josh Allen and Erza Cleveland, and replaced Gabe Burns with Calvin Ridley. If we were to go from having the worst quarterback situation in the league to one of the best, I doubt it would be considered an improvement.

Regarding the Commanders, the same may be stated. With the second overall choice, they should add a quarterback, but Cousins will still be an improvement over this pick in the near future. Frankie Luvu and Tyler Biadasz were added by Washington in free agency, but once more, no team saw the same type of immediate improvement as the Falcons.

Unlike Houston, Atlanta did not have six interesting additions. The Falcons, in contrast to the Texans, lacked a quarterback and had to strengthen the position. Obtaining the greatest available choice is a challenging argument to make.

Given how crucial the quarterback position is in the NFL, one might argue that the Falcons improved more than any other team.
